Announcing Our Next Series
We’re excited to announce that the second volume of our main series will begin tomorrow: Infinite Discontent, Volume 2 will be released in instalments, twice a week over the next few months.
This blog started in early 2024 with our Main Series, which aimed to trace the origins of contemporary far-right and fascist politics back to some key moments of the 20th century—the advent of the atomic bomb, the rise and fall of the Bretton Woods system, and the emergence of neoliberal economics.
The second volume of Infinite Discontent moves towards the events of the present day, where Trump’s second administration is now abusing state counterterrorist powers to repress, arrest, detain, imprison or kill a variety of groups, from “narcoterrorists” to Antifa activists.
Our story begins with 9/11 and the War on Terror, which destroyed the liberal illusion that history had ended in the 1990s. Moving through the GFC, Trump’s first term, and the COVID-19 pandemic, the series traces how the ideology, laws, and institutions of the authoritarian, racist, and imperialist surveillance state that emerged in the War on Terror are now being weaponised against the US population in the present day.
The first post releases tomorrow - we hope you find our second series valuable and interesting.
